The Connecticut Education Foundation’s programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of students and educators across the state. From providing essentials like clothing, food, and eyeglasses, to creating joyful experiences during the holidays, to inspiring a lifelong love of reading, CEF works to remove barriers and support learning in meaningful ways. These programs also strengthen the teaching profession by uplifting educators and engaging communities in acts of generosity, compassion, and service. Holiday Bear Project

The Holiday Bear Project helps ensure that Connecticut students in need experience a brighter holiday season. Through this program, teachers can nominate students, and CEA or CEF pairs each child with a sponsor who purchases gifts based on the student’s needs and interests. For many families, these gifts provide comfort, joy, and relief during a difficult time of year. This long-running initiative reflects the compassion of Connecticut educators and community members who want every child to feel valued and supported.

Read across Connecticut

In partnership with the National Education Association’s Read Across America initiative, Read Across Connecticut celebrates the joy of reading and encourages students of all ages to explore books. Each spring, CEF supports local reading events, programs, and book drives that promote literacy and strengthen school communities. The foundation provides resources for educators and partners, helping make reading both accessible and exciting. These events bring volunteers, families, and teachers together to spark curiosity and inspire young readers throughout Connecticut.
